The Albums We Will See in 2024: The Confirmed, The Unknown, and the Rumoured

2024 marks a new year, which also leads to the potential of new music. This year also marks some significant milestones for some artists: A$AP Rocky has not released an album for six years, Adrianne Lenker and Dua Lipa four years, and NxWorries SEVEN years, just to name a few. Below we have compiled a list of our anticipated albums releasing this year: the confirmed, the TBA and the rumoured. As a side note, artists that are expected to release an album this year but have not confirmed the title will be classified as 'rumoured.'

The Confirmed

January
  • ORQUÍDEAS - Kali Uchis 12/01/24

    • Kali Uchis released an album last year, called 'Red Moon in Venus.' However, she put a poll out on Instagram asking fans if they wanted the Spanish or English album first. As the fans voted English, it appears that her Spanish album 'ORQUÍDEAS' is coming this month. Three lead singles have already been released.

  • INSANO - Kid Cudi 12/01/24

    • Kid Cudi, a favourite among hip hop fans, announced his new album in late 2023, with a release date for 2023 as well. However, after claiming that he will only release the album when it is perfect, the album has been postponed to January 2024. The lead singles for this album have been released on 'The Moon Man's' Soundcloud. The album is confirmed to have 40 songs, with a bumper features list.

  • Saviors - Green Day 19/01/24

    • Although many consider Green Day's greatest heights to be beyond them, it has been three years since the last Green Day album, and any release from this band will garner a degree of attention. A demo of a song from the album was leaked, leading to a pre-mature release. All three singles have been met with promising reactions, so it will be with interest that their 14th studio album comes.

  • plastic death - glass beach 19/01/24

    • After the success of glass beach's first full length album in 2019, the indie rock band is back with 'plastic death'- with the release of the first two singles, rare animal and the CIA. Both singles are brilliant, and would recommend checking out those songs as well as the forthcoming album.

  • Wall of Eyes - The Smile 26/01/24

    • The Smile first debut in 2022 as a Radiohead spinoff- consisting of members Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner. After their first album was met with high praise, the band returns with their second full length album, 'Wall of Eyes.' Two lead singles of the album have already released, and the magic of Radiohead remains in the music.

  • All is Yellow - Lyrical Lemonade 26/01/24

    • Super-creative videographer Cole Bennett's album, 'All is Yellow,' will release this January with a plethora of features under the Lyrical Lemonade brand. What is most interesting about the album is that each song on the album will be accompanied with a music video, featuring a greyscale colour palette, and yellow ties. This has led to numerous artists being cut from the album as they have refused to wear a suit.

February
  • What Now - Brittany Howard 02/02/24

    • Brittany Howard, known as the lead singer of the brilliant Alabama Shakes, will be releasing her second album in February 2024, five years after the release of 'Jaime.' Two singles have been released for the forthcoming album, with Howard quoted to have said to be trying to 'break boundaries.' Although quite a cliche statement, we can expect a brilliant vocal performance regardless.

  • What Happened to the Beach? - Declan McKenna 09/02/2024

    • English rock sensation Declan McKenna returns with his new album in February. After the success of 'What Do You Think About the Car?' and 'Zeros,' the new album marks a new era for the artist. In a press interview, McKenna states that the biggest influences for this guitar influenced album are the eclectic acts, Unknown Mortal Orchestra and St. Vincent. Four singles have already been released for this album.

  • Walls Have Ears - Sonic Youth 09/02/24

    • Although technically not a new album, the legendary Sonic Youth will finally release their bootlegged album 'Walls Have Ears' to streaming services this February. The first song off this upcoming reissue is Expressway to Yr. Skull, which can be found on streaming services.

  • Tangk - IDLES 16/02/24

    • IDLES over the years have continued to release consistent, high quality albums. Given everything we have seen from the band over the years, the new release 'Tangk' will come as another critically acclaimed masterpiece if it is to follow suit. The punk rock band has already released two singles for the upcoming album, with one song featuring LCD Soundsystem. Expect this album to get you moving.

  • Loss of Life - MGMT 23/02/24

    • The status of MGMT cannot be understated. They are back, six years after their last album, the acclaimed 'Little Dark Age.' The single Mother Nature hints at the fact that the band is scared of moving to a new sound due to the reception that may come from the fans, but have decided that this is a new era for MGMT. They have also released another single titled Bubblegum Dog.

  • Djesse Vol. 4 - Jacob Collier 29/02/2024

    • In a sort of a wildcard way, Jacob Collier has not seen the successes and high critical acclaim that the other bands and artists on this list have. Since the last volume of the Djesse series, Collier has worked with artists such as Coldplay, Lizzy McAlpine and Stormzy, meaning we could see a different sound coming from the artist this new album cycle. He has released three singles so far for this upcoming project, and it will be interesting to see where this goes.

March
  • Where’s my Utopia? - Yard Act 01/03/24

    • To put it simply, the first Yard Act album was met with mixed reviews- critics seemed to love it, fans seemed to be lukewarm with it. Three singles have been so far released, and this album has been included on this list as a bit of an anomaly. Will be worth giving a listen when it does release in March.

  • Bleachers - Bleachers 08/03/24

    • Bleachers have done magnificent things over the years. Songs like Rollercoaster and I Wanna Get Better are certain favourites, and a recent collaboration on Lana Del Rey's 2023 'Did You Know There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd' was a much welcomed feature on that album. Two singles have been released for the forthcoming album.

  • Blue Electric Light - Lenny Kravitz 15/03/24

    • The legendary artist Lenny Kravitz will release his twelfth studio album in March this year. Not much has been announced for this album so far, however coinciding with its announcement in October, Kravitz released the lead single.

The TBA

  • Star Line Gallery - Chance the Rapper

    • Thought to be Chance the Rapper's comeback album, we received a number of highly lyrical rapping performances in 2022, but hardly heard from Chance in 2023. Title has been confirmed, expect the album to come in 2024.

  • I AM MUSIC - Playboi Carti

    • If any artist has this much anticipation for a release, it becomes beyond ridiculous, however, Carti's cult following has only increased demand for this new album. It is rumoured to come in January, however as of today we have no release date. Whether the album lives up to the hype is another question.

  • Mango Tree Story - 070 Shake

    • The enigmatic 070 Shake confirms her new album is titled 'Mango Tree Story.' No other information has been released, but also no other artists do the same as she does.

  • Baby Keem - Child with Wolves

    • The rollout for Baby Keem's new album has only just begun this week, but the rapper has posted mysterious messages, tweets and album covers recently. Recently released a song with fred again..., and another with cousin Kendrick Lamar titled 'The Hillbillies.'

  • A$AP Rocky - ALL $MILES

    • It has been six years since TE$TING. Will ALL $MILES ever come? To be honest I don't even know if this is the title of the album, as it could be called DON'T BE DUMB. Rocky has released a few singles, and performed a large number of unreleased songs at live shows in 2023.

  • Vultures - Kanye West, Ty Dolla $ign

    • Kanye albums in 2024, although brilliant, do we really need it? Personally, I would've liked to see Kanye return with a solo project rather than a joint collaboration, but we will never know a confirmed release date for this thing.

  • The Fall Off - J Cole

    • Known by the album that the legendary J. Cole will retire with, the rapper has hinted at the release of 'The Fall Off' on numerous occasions. 2014 Forest Hills Drive also turns ten this year, feel old yet?

The Rumoured

  • Frank Ocean

    • Frank Ocean fans have been starved. After scrapping the album that was to feature songs like DHL, Provider and Little Demon, Frank Ocean has teased numerous songs on his Instagram stories recently, and has also had various songs leak from years past. The album may come this year, but it could come in five.

  • NxWorries

    • Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge will undoubtedly return this year. It has been seven years since their new album, and they have released a couple singles in 2023 in preparation for the new NxWorries release. Expect it to be one of the best RnB performances of the year.

  • Adrianne Lenker

    • The brilliant Adrianne Lenker has not released an album for four years, perhaps due to her Big Thief commitments. However, the beloved indie rock/folk artist recently released the song Ruined while also confirming that an album is coming.

  • Lorde

    • The New Zealand pop star Lorde will release her new album after 2021's 'Solar Power,' which was met with mixed reviews in comparison to her blistering debut and sophomore releases. Recently performed two unreleased songs in 2023 at a live show, and stated in February that new music could be on the way.

  • Dua Lipa

    • An artist that has gone from strength to strength, one of the most recognisable voices in pop music is expected to release her new album in 2024 after the COVID release, 'Future Nostalgia.' Recently was nominated for Grammy's for her contributions on the Barbie soundtrack, and released the lead single Houdini alongside changing all previous album covers to feature kaleidoscopic imagery.
