Cricket World Cup Preview - Australia vs Bangladesh

Background

Bangladesh started the tournament as a team that might come close to qualification as their record in Bangladesh is very good and India also might suit them. But this was not the case as before the start of the tournament Shakib, their captain, got into a controversy with the senior members on his fitness. Clearly not ideal preparation for their best player and captain, and this has led to disappointing on-field performances, 2 wins and 6 losses.

Whilst Australia is undoubtedly the stronger side, cricket fans around the world are eagerly anticipating this clash. Bangladesh’s ability to spring surprises and will be determined to break their losing streak against Australia which started back in 2005 makes this match a must-watch to end the tournament on a positive. Regardless of the result, we play South Africa on November 16!

Team Preview

Australia- After losing the two initial encounters, Australia has staged a remarkable comeback, winning six consecutive matches, which has sent a strong message to the cricketing world: never underestimate the Aussies in ICC tournaments.

Australia’s last three encounters were nail-biting clashes against Afghanistan, New Zealand and England. These matches went down to the wire and the Aussies emerged victorious, showcasing their ability to thrive under pressure.

Throughout the tournament, it’s their openers who led the charge, but in the clash against England, the middle-order arrived at the party. Smith and Labuschagne posted a crucial partnership after early wickets. Zampa played a fiery cameo at the end and was unplayable with the ball, but Maxwell’s 201* has been the star performance of the tournament.

However, Maxwell is in doubt for the last-round game for Australia as he is having concerns with the numerous spasms and cramps he was experiencing out at the crease, Sean Abbott is rumoured to replace him.

Bangladesh- Bangladesh is a side that was a potential top 4 for some of the experts and they have underperformed by far the most in this tournament even the associate Dutch have done better. Shakib has underperformed so far in this WC and Mahmudullah has been outstanding as the two pillars of the team but many people don’t know that he wasn’t there in the actual plans for the WC. Bangladesh have got a tremendous pace lineup and they will look to play for their pride. Likes of Miraz and Das will look to make a difference as it is important for them to retain their places especially Liton who has got a lot of talent but is heavily inconsistent.

Shakib Al Hassan has been ruled out with injury which definitely gives Australia the upper hand.

Match Prediction

Australia to dominate and power their way through to the semi-finals! Marsh and Starc to be the standout performers with the bat and bowl.
